Sergei Matokhin


Sergey Nikolayevich Matokhin, a Russian guitarist, composer, instructor, docent of P. A. Serebryakov Volgograd Municipal Institute of Arts.

Sergey Matokhin was born in 1967 in Volgograd , Russia . He started playing the guitar when he was 11. He was first a student of the Variety-Jazz Department of Saratov College of Music, then of the Classical Guitar Department of P. A. Serebryakov Volgograd Municipal Institute of Arts. Since 2002 he has been doing a post-graduate course within L. V. Sobinov Saratov State Conservatoire (the Department of Chamber Ensemble). In the past years he has been a participant of many master classes held by world-famous masters of guitar-playing such as Roberto Aussel, Carlo Markione, Rafaela Smits. He was also in class of the professor of the Gnesynykh Russian Music Academy , Honoured Musician of Russia Alexander Frauchi.

Sergey Matokhin is the founder and leader of the group "Golden Horde" as well as the composer of its music. Both as a member of this group and the performance-group "Orchestrion" and as a solo-player he toured in Russia , France , Spain , Germany , Poland and Great Britain . At present he frequently performs with various chamber ensembles as well as Volgograd , Elista, Astrakhan Chamber Orchestras and Saratov , Kazan, Volgograd Academic Symphony Orchestras.

Since 1994 he has been teaching in P. A. Serebryakov Volgograd Municipal Institut of Arts. Many of his students have become prizewinners of regional, All-Russian and international classical guitar-playing competitions in the past years.

Since 1995 Sergey Matokhin has been a regular invited teacher in a music school of the town of Po (France).

In 1999 he organized the “Tabula Rasa” Festival-Competition for classical guitar players being its art-director.

In 2003 he founded and headed Volgograd Centre for Promoting Guitar-Playing.

In 2005 Sergey Matokhin became a Laureate of All-Russian competition chamber ensembles.
